What is an Enlarged Prostate?
An enlarged prostate or benign prostate hyperplasia (BHP) is an extremely common condition in men; eight% of all men between the ages of 31 and 40 and 50% of all men between the ages of 51 and 60 suffer from BPH.
Not all men suffering from an enlarged prostate have symptoms. Symptoms only occur when the size of the prostate is more than 30 ml. This in turn decreases urinary flow and results in nocturia (you have to get up at night to pass urine).
Men suffering from this condition may experience the following symptoms: frequent urination, nocturia, weak urinary flow, difficulty in initiating urination and difficulty in emptying the bladder completely.
Cause: The prostate gland keeps growing throughout a man's life, but in some men it grows faster and starts causing symptoms. Several scientific studies have proven that a number of natural ingredients are able to reduce symptoms, stop the growth and even reduce the size of the prostate without unpleasant side effects like impotence etc. Most pharmaceutical drugs used for this condition only reduce symptoms, not the size of the prostate and often cause side effects like impotence, lower libido, dizziness, headaches etc. The nutritional supplements mentioned below do not have these side effects.
Which natural ingredients can have an effect on an enlarged prostate?
Serenoa repens (saw palmetto), urtica dioca (nettle extract), lycopene, fish oils and zinc.
What effects do these ingredients have?
- Just as effective as synthetic medicines but without side effects such as impotence, lowered libido, reduced ejaculation volume and rash.
- Reduce prostate enlargement.
- Enhance urinary flow.
- Reduce residual urine.
- Reduce nocturia.
- Reduce frequent urination.
- Stimulate libido.
- Do NOT interfere with prostate specific antigen (PSA).
For the reader with a deeper interest:
How do these ingredients work?
- Treat and prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
- Anti-estrogen and anti-spasmodic effect.
- Anti-proliferate effect on epithelial and struma prostate cells.
- Inhibit 5 alpha-reductase types 1 and 2.
- Inhibit the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosteron (DHT).
- Delay prostate cell growth by inhibiting fibroblast growth factor (FGF).
- Reduce the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha and interleukin (IL) 1 beta.
- Inhibit lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase (COX).
